Lucky8 has a grease-able replacement shaft for $208 I ran one on my D2 no issues. Link is in my signature line, great prices and customer service.

Great discussion, and thanks to all that helped. I ordered a Great Basin Rovers HD front shaft after I had a informative discussion with Bill (at GBR). I don't see any of the indications that were discussed (needle bearings rusted out, squeaks, etc.),but Bill's reaction to my vehicle being one owner, at 143k, and the original front shaft was what sold me. He said after all his time with Land Rovers he has only known one other person to have higher mileage (174k) who had not changed their front shaft. Maybe it was true, or just a sales pitch, either way the point is that I keep this Disco running!

I intend to crawl underneath one thing weekend and figure a way to fit a metal safety loop over the front shaft. My drag car has one and it saves a lot of damage when I pop the rear

Good luck with that GBR shaft. Mine was a complete waste of $$$. The Ebay units for 124.00 with greasable u-joints are just as good or the lucky8 shaft at a much better price.

I would have returned it, but I sold that D2 with it tossed in the back as a trail spare.

I designed a front shaft safety hoop in consequence with SuperSport, but, there is one already available in the US for fixing onto the D2 and other trucks.

I will say this... any of the greasable DS's are an improvement over the stock one. The problem most people have is they don't continually grease the new Drive Shaft with every Oil change. I bet the el cheapo ebay one would last a long time no squeaks or anything if people kept it greased... just saying

I haven't seen it mentioned thus far but the reason for the dried up U joints is their location right between the cats. High heat area and no way to lube is the problem.

Cat location, HVAC water dripping on it = She's gonna fail

So far the Ebay unit (fully grease able) that I've used 3 times now for friends have been fine and they've passed the GBR unit (lasting longer than 6 months) before squeaking like a chipmunk.

Key is keeping it lubed at each oil change for sure! I noticed on my GBR shaft it used the U-Joints with the zerk fittings inside the X of the U-Joint and they were not lined up in a row. The Ebay unit (same unit from several vendors) has the zerk fittings in the end of the caps & all 4 are inline with each other making it a breeze to lube all at once vs having to crawl out & move the D2 to get to the other zerk fittings.

Land Rover Discovery 4.0L 1999-2002 Front Driveshaft Drive Shaft TVB000110 eBay

99-04 Drive Shaft (same P/N's) and there are many different Ebay sellers to pick n choose from for around the same price. At that price it makes no sense to pay & have the original rebuilt with parts & labor.
