I just ordered the 2991/Dorman fan upgrade, and a new reservoir cap. I think the fan will help with another degree or two the cap is just a precaution.
Couple of aftermarket fans behind the radiator, don't remember what size I bought them as big as would fit, fabricated a shroud out of a plastic bin lid. A little jankity but it works, just never had time to make it look nicer.

Hopping in to say that this is easily the best thing I've done to my truck! I opted for the 180 thermostat and am running my overflow cap one turn from tight/sealed. This dropped my temps 3-5 degrees Fahrenheit, helps keep my eyes off of my ultra gauge a bit more, and seriously gives me more peace of mind. It's also a very easy install but was time consuming for me because I ran into an issue with the splice not fitting because a PO had opted for a different sized hose so I ended up bypassing it with the Gates 22073 coolant hose. My truck didn't even hit 188 while pulling a trailer at 55-65 mph.

So I have been driving t around the last few days and I think that I am good. The ambients here are 100+ and cruising around 55-65 it is maintaining 197-204. If stopped at a light it may touch 204-204, but has done really well. The odd thing though s that when at highway speeds with max CFM I figured t would drop lower but it either maintains the same temp or ticks up a degree or so. Oh and all these temps are at the heat of the day and with the A/C on. My Hayden/Dorman should be in today as well. So I all in all I think it is good. In a cooler environment I think. Would see some of the temps others have posted but all things considered I think it is doing well.

Sounds like you are doing about as well as can be expected for now. Interested to see if the fan makes any difference.

no worries a disco discussion is always fun

I still think the best feature of this thermostat is the idle temps and slow speed. Where the 180 and oem tend to run close to 200 210 this inline thermostat keeps things super cool. 175-180

I am seeing better temps now. Installed the Hayden/Doman fan setup, and a new Britpart coolant reservoir cap. I’m not sure which one is doing the magic but temps are down.
Even at 103 ambient yesterday the highest temp on my Ultrgauge was 197. Running around town earlier when the ambients were 95-100, I was chilling in the mid 180’s. And all temps were wit the A/C on.

I even got some complements from the locksmith on how sick the disco looked. It was freshly washed, but I still think he was being generous for messing up my key blank. It may have been clean but that black paint is in bad shape.

BD that's a solid before/after test, easy enough to swap back to the old cap for a validation test but my money is on the fan making the difference.
