I have a 96 Disco 1 with just over 200k on her. She is super clean as she was in Texas her entire life. Im planning an overland trip from Chicago to Colorado and back. I want to make sure she has no mechanical issues during the trip if possible. Is it possible to do the inline thermostat mod on the disco 1? I just had a full tune up completed. I have a few more items on my list before the trip which are: O2 sensors, heavy duty front drive shaft, IAC Stepper Motor, brakes, and a spare park mechanism.

any thoughts or advice would be appreciated as This is my first Disco and I love it!

Here I sit with 235,000 and the factory stat setup sitting at 197. If I turn the heat on and coast down the hill it drops to low 180's.

I wonder what it would drop to while coasting on a 7 mile hill.

I’d like to add that when I was hitting 230 degrees with my 190 thermostat, I had major tapping noises when running my V8.
After I changed the oil and installed a 180 thermostat, Zerex G-5 coolant, Hayden clutch and Dorman fan I’ve been having temps at 190 and no more tapping noises on my V8.

Hmm...

Been running the in-line 180 for a few years now with no issues. Temps are typically around 183-194 - lower while going down hill in Tahoe in winter. May try the 190 to see if I get a bump in MPH.

The temp would drop a lot if you shut the engine off, or ran out of gas.
