Default Inline thermostat- Which way does the spring go?

OK, So I am about ready to do the install this weekend.

I am pretty sure the spring side goes towards the front, but please re-confirm.

Also, I am assuming the small drilled hole goes at 12' o clock.

Thanks

Just did my mod and I have to say... it works!!! I idled it for about 15 mins and never went above 197F then I drove around block.. it went to 204 for 2 seconds then way down to 181 the stabilized at 183.. maybe little air bleeding out! but I'm going for a longer drive now !

I just completed head gaskets and the Mod this weekend.

I placed mine dead center of the upper shroud and cut a little recess for it to sit into. Looks cleaner then at the edge, in my opinion.

I used a 175 thermostat and I only drove it for an hour, but I am at the 178-182 range.

Looks a neat job Abran also the engine looks the business, nice and clean.

Where did you get/find the inline stat and what make?

Oh, the jiggle pin and hole always goes at 12 o'clock for venting purposes on all stats.
