I bought my 99 disco II a little over a month ago and now it's time to start fixing the issues. The inside rear view mirror has gone black about 3/4 the way up. I have another mirror from an 02 disco so now I have to figure out how to get the old mirror free from the windshield. I've removed mirrors from older cars but none like this. What is the trick.

I had the same issue with my '99 and replaced it. With a firm grip on the base of the mirror just slide straight down along the windshield and slide the new one in the same manner when installing. Not difficult...

actually I have taken the mirror replacement stuff and glued a new one back on. Works the same cut it out the same area and you are fine.

 

I got a 02 mirror replacement from a junk yard and am not sure how to replace the wiring... on the 97 its black, gray and white and on the new mirror 02 its red, brown, gray wires... any ideas?

 

You have the wrong mirror, you need another DI mirror, the DII mirror has a compass in it, wire it wrong and not only will it not work you could fry something.

 

I have a Disco II and it has no compass.
