Default Installed 180 thermostat and now overheating

It is the strangest thing. I installed a 180 degree thermostat from Lucky 8 and now my truck is running 212-221. I have bled the system multiple times and it just won't cool down. Has anyone else had this issue? I am just going to put the old thermostat on it tonight.

I have bled it by putting the front tires on ramps overnight and then opened the bleed screw, lifted the res tank up and filled it till fluid came out of the bleed screw. Is there a better way?

Is it the LR OEM Grey 180F thermostat? If it’s the cheaper black unit, I’m sorry to tell you this but there is a very good chance it is not a 180F thermostat.

It's the black one. I am going to just put the old one back on and leave it alone. Oh well, on to the next issue

Yep sadly Lucky8 continues to sell an el cheapo 180F as a 180F & it isn’t.

Ordered this works great kept my temps from 188-194. Not sure if it’s failing on me but I started a thread on it overheating at idle but I doubt it’s the thermostat

I believe I got my 180F from Rovers North and it was legit. If you’re gonna have to swap it out anyway, take a moment and get a proper 180F. It’s worth it in the long run since you’re going to have to perform the work anyway.

This issue comes up so much. Just do the inline mod and be done with it.

By the way 212 - 221 is not overheating. Those are the factory designed stock operating temps that most all of these vehicles spent most of their lives running at.

Sure it is very close to overheating and any flaw in the system could lead to ruin at those "stock"temps... Which is why most of us choose to run the alternate thermostat to build in a safety buffer so as to be a tad bit farther from catastrophe if something does fail in the cooling system.

I am returning what was advertised as a Britpart 180 from "Proper Spec", but that is Lucky 8 and it is not the Britpart. I have ended up not needing it, but if it were a good Britpart Unit marked 78c I would keep it for the future, but alas I got tricked into the el cheapo.

I love those guys, but yeesh, don't advertise it as a Britpart when it is not.

My grey 180 from Rovers North works great. It's the TD5 Diesel thermostat.

My Autool gauge starts beeping at 221 so I thought it was overheating. Either way it is to hot for me.
