installing the 04 CDL into a 01

Question installing the 04 CDL into a 01

Okay on the hi/lo cable there is a electrical connector does anyone know what to do with that? It shifts side to side to activate the CDL but from hi to lo there is a little safety pin that has to be pressed in in order to shift. I assume the electrical connector controls that safety pin but i just don't know where it plugs in to. Anybody done this set up? Last time i put in a D I shifter i am positive there was no electrical plug just laying down there on the T-case.

03&04 have the shift solenoid in the shifter instead of in the transfer case. It's there to keep you from shifting into neutral while going down the road.

Right i understand that, but what do I do with it on a 01? I can just get rid of it with out a problem but I was looking for a answer from someone who has done the install and has the experience. Not to be rude Jafir but I want to skip all the BS, I know how it works on a 04 but I am not dealing with installing it on a 04 I am installing it on a 01

Just remove it. You'll still have the solenoid in the case.

Thank you!! so disregard the plug and i will get the pin filed down clear of the linkage and then my 01 solenoid will still be in control like normal. Thanks again i was pretty sure that was the process but was looking for confirmation i guess.

I recently installed an 04 CDL linkage in my 2000 and found the same issue, but the fix is simple: remove the hi/lo actuator arm from the linkage, so that you can get to the solenoid, scrape off the silicone seal and remover the circle clip holding it all in. Cut the wire coming from the back of linkage and the solenoid will fall right out. Now replace the actuator arm, with the same orientation to the shift lever, and you're ready to install it.

It's important that the alignment of the hi/lo actuator arm to the shift lever matches that of your original linkage, or you may find the cable in need of some serious adjustment.

you just connect that to your flux capacitor, or is it the continuum transfunctioner.... I can never remember

Steve517 is right. Just remove the solenoid in the '04 shifter as he describes, but save the serrated washer you'll find there for the other upgrade you should do while you have the console out.

Go ahead now and replace the cigar lighter with a U.S.-size version. NAPA sells one that even has a lighted ring the same green color as the original. You'll find that the hole in the console is just slightly too large for the NAPA lighter, but the "serrated" washer from the '04 shifter is the perfect size to use when mounting the NAPA lighter in the console to keep it from pulling through the hole. Then, wire it to be always on using an Add-A-Circuit or a wire run directly from a fuse block POS terminal.
