Hi y’all, I have run into the most disappointing issue. I purchased my 99’ disco 2 a few years ago and recently moved to California and I need to smog it. The bad part is that it failed because the service engine soon light is not working and after days of research and head ache I finally figured out why. The previous owner (grade A *#%hole) took an object and actually broke off the tiny LED lights for the instrument cluster. It’s a pain in the neck and I cannot find anywhere that sells these illusive lights. Can anyone please help me?!

They are dirt cheap (unbranded, China), but you have to buy 100pcs.
I've run into this a lot especially on the 3 Amigo LED's. I'd personally just buy a 99-02 Cluster with less mileage vs your unit, then get someone with a Nanocom or T4 to SYNC the cluster to the BCU and call it a day.
I just bought a 2002 and had the same exact issue. I bought an instrument cluster for $40, fixed the issue that was causing my 3 amigos - brake job and replace frozen caliper. Then had the cluster mileage synced to the BCU. It was total pain - I was totally p!553d but I’m about 2 weeks past it and I couldn’t be happier
How difficult/what is the procedure for removing and inspecting the instrument cluster? I have a sneaky suspicion that I’m in the same boat. I wasn’t able to find anything in the RAVE. I need to secure the cowl around the instruments any so as long as I’m in there I’d like to do this.
looks like PO removed 3 other LEDs too! Pretty sure you should have a 'BRAKE' LED......
Options: measure the voltage across the LED leads then order right color/voltage SMT led...could be 5v or 12v.... There are many different SMT LEDs. The new ones which look just like the one you have mounted are addressable and have 24bit color. These are NOT what you want to buy. So you have to be careful in your choice of LED. The ones on the disco board ONLY have (+) and (-) mounts, so these are single color LEDs. likely common LED size 5x5mm too. Soooo..you have to pick the right color AND voltage. Not a big deal to figure out. And the resistors are already in line!
Might be easier to find a used broken dash cluster and exchange the LEDs with a micro point solder iron...
There are no 5V or 12V LEDs. LEDs have a forward voltage based on chemistry/color and current.
E.g. a red LED has a forward Voltage of about 1.8V at 30mA (precise values are given in the data sheet).
5V and 12V LED-assemblies are made by adding a series resistor and optionally putting multiple LEDs in series (to increase efficiency). With the right series resistor LED lights can be designed for almost any DC voltage.
The instrument cluster board has 470 Ohm (yellow-purple-brown) series resistors for the LEDs already (pls see the pictures from OP above). A 1.8V LED with the series resistor at 12V will yield a current of about 20mA-30mA, which is a typical current for a signal LED.

Getting the instrument cluster out and in is very easy. I did it multiple times because I had to tune the brightness of my bulb replacement LEDs (backlight, odometer, high beam).
As mentioned, always disconnect the battery. And never turn on ignition or even drive without instrument cluster.
