Default Intake manifold

Ok so prepping to do this on Saturday. I have all the gaskets it looks like now.
RTV silicone
gasket tack
new plugs
new wires
new coils

I am having a problem finding an 8mm 12pt socket for 1/4 drive going to try Napa tomorrow.

i need coolant ?

now my big issue is this I have an 03 with sai
how much do I have to tear apart on them ?

heads are not coming off as this is to fix an oil leak from when the heads where done. I think they didn’t silicone the valleys like I watched in the AB video.
Valve cover gaskets have silicone I see on one corner and the gasket is sticking out. So they going to be replaced.

trying to run this through ahead of time so I am prepared.

Here is the 8 mm, 1/4-inch drive, 12-point socket I bought several years ago. Lots of online and brick and mortar retailers sell the brand. I checked tonight and the UPC is still correct and active.

Yes you will need coolant.

If your upper intake manifold still has the studs that the SAI connects onto then you will have to remove the pipe that takes the coolant from the engine to the heater core. Replacement O-Ring ERR6434 will be needed for reassembly. Be ready for coolant to come out if you have not drained a good amount of the coolant before hand.

Highly suggest replacing the studs with the M6 -1.00 x 12 Allen bolt for reassembly. Mulch easier to put everything back together with the bolts vs. studs.

SAI tubes:

Big bolt is 1 1/16
18mm wrench is needed to hold down the pipe so the internal threads that go into the heads don't rotate.

Various degrees of success using a small adjustable wrench that goes to 18mm, a short handle 18mm wrench or a crows foot 18mm wrench.

Per Rave the exhaust manifold should come out first and that makes getting the SAI tubes off a breeze. But of course enlarges the scope of the project.

Yes and No

Yes, this is the proper way.

No, you can bend the tubes back to get them off the studs that attach them onto your upper intake manifold but you are risking breaking the pipes while doing this.

Depends on your level of risk.

I've done both.

Regardless, replace the studs with bolts then there is no reason to remove the SAI tubes or the pipe with the coolant going to the heater core if you need to remove the upper intake manifold again in the future.

Start spraying all fasteners with penatrating oil now, give it a day to soak in and repeat.

looks like someone was already in there! Missing some bolts...

TIP: to drain coolant BELOW the level of the heads/intake, remove overflow tank cap, remove the tank from mount, then pour out what you can into catch container. Then unclamp and remove lower overflow tank hose (the large one) and hold it below the level of the heads while placing it into catch can (an empty coolant jug works well). Loosen/remove the air bleed screw. This will empty a large portion of top end coolant without making a mess.....
