Default Intake Manifold - coolant leak

I have coolant leaking out my 2002 discovery, I could see it dripping out the motor onto the driveway. My wife was going through coolant like it was going out of fashion. So I took it to a local mechanic and he said it was the intake manifold. He has been working to replace the intake manifold gaskets and also new serpentine belt and replaced two bad pulleys. He took my advice to order the parts from British Atlantic.

Looks like I'm going to pay $445 including parts and labor. Is that a good price?

Thanks

Seems in the normal range for an indy shop, would be low for a dealer. You'll want to be sure you are not over heating (or close to it), he can check with scanner OBDII tool to read you coolant temp to make sure nothing else is going on due to loss of coolant. Rover's don't like low coolant and overheating. Dashboard gauge is way too optimistic.

Thanks. I replaced the throttle body heater plate myself a few months ago as I thought that was the problem (I could see coolant there also). This manifold gasket job seemed too complex for me.

I'll have him do the coolant temp test.

Here's an example of why, the dash gauge looks pretty normal, but engine is too warm on scanner. You'll see a lot of posts about an Ultra Gauge, which allows you to have a digital gauge ($70) to monitor coolant temp, and an alarm set point you control that directs SWMBO attention to it. Gauge pis OF d1, and a D2 is designed to stay midpoint until it is very very warm. It is not like your old analog gauge where you could see modest rise and fall, and know that it is running warmer today than yesterday, etc.

Nice. I'll look into getting one of those, I dont want the truck to over heat.

I'm trying to get all the big jobs done in the coming months; Tom Woods driveshaft, new brakes, better suspension etc. Hoping to make this an even better vehicle.

Thanks for your help.
