Default intense leak (spray) of transmission fluid from D2

Hello I have yet another problem with my 00 D2., I was driving for about 30 minutes getting food and shopping before I went to work, everything fine, filled the tank with gas and drove to work, I parked and shut it off, about 30 seconds later I heard a hissing, i looked under the truck and saw that a stream of red fluid spraying towards the rear end from somewhere near the oil filter, i opened the hood and reached my hand in near the oil filter from the top trying to find the leak but i couldn't really feel anything just the fluid running down the oil filter and surrounding areas, the fluid warm, red and runny, the truck was at full temp at the time, i couldnt find the leak so i just panicked and watched the fluid drain, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 quarts sprayed out and slowed to a drip after about 60 seconds, i checked the oil it was fine so i decided to drive the truck 2 blocks away to my friends house so I wouldnt need to leave it stranded at work (all my door lock actuators don't work) for who knows how long, the truck started up fine, and didnt leak while it was running and driving, when I arrived at my friends house and parked it that when it started dribbling more fluid, I havent got a chance to crawl under there and look exactly where its coming from, i just know that it leaked from somewhere near the oil filter, i put a white paper plate under the truck to pick up the fluid so I could confirm the color, its light red in color, runny, and I cant really smell much off of it. Are there and transmission cooler lines near the oil filter? or what near that area couldve broke? i know itsnot very specific but anything helps

Sounds like a high pressure tranny hose has a leak. The tranny cooler is located below the radiator. Don't drive till you get it fixed otherwise you are driving with little to no oil in the tranny.

alright, so i should get it towed to the shop? and can a regular mechanic tackle it? or do i need to take a LR specialist, I was going to take it to the same mechanic that swapped my old transmission with a new one so they are pretty familiar with it, i drove it to my friends in 2nd gear so it wouldnt damage anything if it was too low, i havent touched it since

i had this happen to me. one of the hose connections came off where it attached to the cooler. it didn't come out in a hissing spray though, since it's not under huge pressure at that point.
transmission fluid usually has a pretty distinctive smell though. it sounds like this might actually be your power steering fluid, coming out of the high-pressure side of that system.

Strange that it would "spray" with high pressure after the engine was shut down. As mollusc said, it is not a high pressure line in the first place and should have no pressure once things stop spinning.

Sure it's not coolant? Dexcool might look sort of red.

i went and crawled under today to see, pretty sure its dripping from the coolant hose going into the engine above the oil filter, and i felt the fluid and it is extremely watery to the touch and a light red almost pink in color, and the coolant level was about 2 inches from the bottom of the reservoir, i put water in it to top it off and idled the truck until half temp, no leak until shut off, then a steady stream of liquid came out, and it almost looked lighter in color (higher water ratio im guessing) so should i just replace that hose?

some photos might help, especially of the hose that you say it is dripping off. not that that's necessarily the hose that is leaking, but it would be a start.

What color is the coolant in the overflow tank? If it is green then you can rule that out, if it is pink I would suspect from what you said about the overflow being low that you have a cooling system failure. That would explain the pressure and the fact that you could drive it. With no transmission fluid you'd have issues getting into gear. If it is just a coolant hose you don't need an LR specialist for that. If it's the front cover you might.

yes, the remaining fluid in the res is pink, and if it is in fact just the hose i will probably do it by myself in the driveway, all my hoses are pretty soft and feel like they are in good condition, could it be heat that damaged it? i found a piece of cardboard in between the hose and the engine like a makeshift heat shield
