Interested in Disco II
After 4 months of searching, I paid $12K for my 04 SE7, 55K mi last year and it was exactly what I was looking for. $7K+ does sound on the high side, but if it was maintained properly, may be in better shape than rigs with half the mileage.
I have both an 01 and 03 with the 4.6 engine. The 01 has 120k and the 03 130k. I have put considerably LESS money so far into the 01 than I have the 03. The 03 had gaskets done when I bought it so I was assuming that would be a big advantage over the 01 I already owned considering the gaskets on the 01 were starting to leak. 01 is still going with the same gaskets. About twice as much has been replaced on the 03. Transfer cases are going on both, so watch for that repair as it is as inevitable as the gaskets and 3 amigos. I have replaced almost all the hoses on the 03, an alternator, window motor (twice - going on 3 times), wiper blades, the 3 amigos are starting to illuminate intermittently, and the headliner is now starting to fall on the 03 as well. Honestly I would say any of these discos with over 120k are going to start to require rebuilding and expect to sink a minimum of 5k (if you must have everything 100% functioning) and (8k if the head gaskets are not already done, and you're not a mechanic) in the next 10-20 thousand miles. They always start right up and I still can't say it is bad buy at 4-5k which is probably the average price for mileage in excess of 100k if you like what the vehicle can offer and don't mind living with some of their more minor problems, but be prepared to open the pocket book for the larger ones. As the adage goes, I recommend having two - for when one is in the shop
Finally bought a disco.
2001 with 95000 miles. Previous owner has all maintenance records. HG already replaced as well as a/c compressor and headliner.
Previous owner added snorkel, arb bumpers front and rear, warn winch, 19" range rover wheels with brand new Wrangler MT-R 255 55R19. Also added very nice alpine stereo and vent visors on windows. He included an old set of tires that still has 50% left.
$6,000. Maybe a bit high but has lots of upgrades.

Congrats, good looking rig!
Now climb a freaking mountain, and since you have the snorkel cross a freaking river.
Listen the bumber and snorkel and wench is 2 k of value easy. the HG another 2 k, you got a nice deal. Do not forget to check out that drive shaft and watch that coolant level?

Congrats. Looks a nicely prepared rig - very tidy. Can't comment on price really as I'm not in touch with US prices but it would probably fetch the same or slightly less in £sterling.
£1 GBP = circa $1.6 USD
