Default Interior Grab Handles-Headliner project

Hey Everyone,

Hope all are looking forward to the New Year! I've really been enjoying sprucing up the new Disco- already looks totally different, just needed some love. In preparation of the headliner project, I'm searching for a few items...

Interior grab handles- mine are all but gone due to sun and wear. I'd refinish them if there was enough material left, but there's not. I've searched for hours and can only find expensive black OEMs or not nice looking used. Center to center the holes are 19.5cm. If anyone has come up with a solution, I'd really appreciate a link. Quite shocked that I can't find them on a 4x4 accessory site either.

Being super pedantic but I am also missing the oval button that depresses the courtesy light in the back seats. No luck finding just the button. If anyone has an odd one that they'd like to send, please PM me. or any other creative ideas! OEM you'd have to buy the whole unit again.

Have a sweet backup camera mirror on order- thanks to an old thread : )

Can anyone think of anything else that can/should be done during the headliner project?

Best Wishes!

Yep. Most of the grab handles for sale on ebay, etc are deteriorated. Heat/age/ozone/whatever decay on plastic.

I was lucky to find a set off an 04 in a salvage yard that were as good as new.

They're not avail new from LR anymore, and they have a BMW part stamp on them. These look exactly the same -- but black -- E36 m3 4 door grab handles. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...k/51168203994/

Consider putting a heat barrier between the roof and the headliner. It will reduce the noise too.
How pedantic do you want to go about it? I restored my headliner with brand new parts if I could find them. Lights are around $60 brand new. I also scored a BNIB upper console. Yeppers!
For the handles--custom made. I am working on a project that will have two metal parts that are fastened to the holes with a leather connector.

@AdriBushBaby I will check with my local LR project shop they may have a decent set they will let go, I assume you would like Tan. It will after the new year, what sort of price point are you looking at for 4 or do you need 6

Hi Richard,

I'd appreciate that! 4. Beige if they are in good shape otherwise black is fine. I was hoping to get all 4 for under $40. Thanks much!

Do a search on my sunroof sealing post, you want to get that done while the headliner is out. plan to drive it about 3-4 rainy days that way to make sure you have no leaks.

What about coating the grab handles with plastidip? Or vinyl paint?

Default Grab Handles

I'm planning on replacing my headliner this summer. Would love to find replacements for the grab handles.

If the handle part that attaches to the posts is okay, and the "grabbed" portion isn't, try wrapping with beige cord like done to a steering wheel. Cheap to do and to replace, later.
