Default Intermittent No Start in Warm Weather...04

No starter engagement, all electrics DO work.

Intermittent and happens in warm to hot weather ONLY.

Turning the key several times will get the truck to start normally.

I don't think its starter related since it only does it in warm or hot weather.

Searched and found one thread that ended unresolved from a year ago..so does anyone have any ideas?

I'd say something is wrong with your ignition switch. The actual part behind the key that runs to the fuse box.

Or maybe a CKPS that is about to completely go out.

This could be way off the mark, but: from personal experience, I had a completely different vehicle that would not start when hot under the hood, like after a brief stop and the resulting heat soak. It vexed me for weeks before a technician friend said, "Oh, the positive battery cable is loose." Sure enough.

But with heat soak the engine turns over, but won't fire off and run. His issue is if I'm not mistaken it won't turn over at all. Then after a few on/off key cycles it fires right up.

I would certainly check the battery post though! Dirty battery post can cause all sorts of crazy issues.

In my case, it was no crank. Several key attempts sometimes yielded a start, and a jump always did.

I should've said this earlier, but it's not a battery cable issue. Those are tight and clean. There is always power to everything else. Also, this has been going on for couple years now. Acts up in spring and summer (10 months of the year in Texas)

Its more like the ignition connections get worse in hot weather or something.

Number 9: not really I drive a lot and it happens almost every start through out the day

Nick: So after tightening your cable it worked every time? You didn't have power to radio etc did you?

Best: I wonder how much life that used one has in it.

May want to be looking at starter. If not starter itself could be high resistance at solenoid connector. Relays have also know to be intermittent.

I cannot answer the radio question; I simply don't know (never tried.) But yes, after I tightened positive clamp it started (cranked) every time. The idea is that after the heat soak, the ring of the battery cable expanded and did not give the starter enough amperage (or "kazap" in the vulgate) to turn starter.
