That is excellent news. I doubt any damage was done. You'd had to driven it with the light on constantly & the engine would have been sounding dry.

Well hopefully this will be the case. Mechanic said the oil pump was worn out
I hope that’s all it was I’ll puck it up Friday and pray

you would think a pump that wears out over time would show signs of or oil light would flicker from time to time but no oil light started coming on steady
doesn’t make sense

Good to hear it Kat

Just had the oil pump replaced last year on my 02 Disco and am curious...other than inspecting the bearings, how would you know if they were damaged due to the oil pump going bad? Are there any telltale sounds/symptoms that would indicate there is damage done?...

Would you hear it upon start up? Upon acceleration, etc? What does it sound like?

Well picked up the disco today
seemed fine on my 2 hour trip
mechanic said oil pump and timing cover were in bad shape
my disco might be one of the only ones that fits the bad vin oil pump issues that lasted almost 90 k miles
good thing i didn’t hurt any Berings
next oil change I might add a pressure gauge

It would have been pretty obvious if it was an affected front cover as the dowels would have been jacked up. It’s a wear item on any Buick 215/Rover V8.

Since you are in Canada maybe they handled the 03’s differently, but I know in TX it was taken very seriously at all the Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston dealerships.

I’ll never forget the room full of 4.6L V8’s puller from 03 D2’s. They were stacked in there pretty good. They were supposed to get shipped back to LR, but eventually the cost to return all the engines was to much, so a lot of techs were able to grab them for free! Some just slapped on a new timing cover & slapped em into their RRC/D90/D1’s or 4.0L D2’s. After that the left over engines were just taken away for scrap.

Glad she’s on the road again!

So I got the verdict from the LR Shop. Talked to the owner himself. They manually checked the truck's oil pressure, which all checked out to be fine, except at hot idle. Remember, there were literally no other symptoms except for the oil light. The only things he said he has seen make the oil light come on are the dreaded cam #3 bearing being slipped out or the oil pump gears and valves. He did say they would have to drop the oil pan to do the inspection, but since there were literally no other options and since it's been a hot summer here in Denver, we're going to make the switch to 15W-40 from SAE 5W-30 and see how that goes. Apparently LR decided to do away with the oil temperature regulation system with the 03 and 04 DII's, which leads to these problems.

Soooooooo, I'm going with the oil change, hoping for the best, and possibly looking into selling it.

So far on this truck I've done valve covers and gaskets, ignition coils, spark plugs, disabled superlock, resealed the 4x4 transfer case, radiator flush with hoses changed, front driveshaft rebuilt w/ tranny fluid flushed.
Thanks to the dude up top advising to get out before I end up doing a full rebuild, I'm definitely more than one foot out the door.

New to the forum. Ive isolated the walked cam bearing which is the source of my oil light coming on at idle. I figure someone has probably also found that the cam bearing has walked. It seems to me I caught this very early. I can probably press it back in and then stake it. I just need referenced as to the orientation of the cam bearing journal holes in relationship to the block. I can't see to find this information anywhere on the net!!! Which I am sure Im not going to be the only looking for this as it seems to becoming more common. If anyone has pictures, of the correct orientation would be greatly appreciated by me and anyone else finding the same cause of the oil light being the walked cam bearing.

Thanks
