Default Intermittent Overheating After Repair

Hi everyone -- I'm having an intermittent issue with overheating. A few weeks ago the truck began to overheat (after making it through the entire summer without overheating once). As a precaution, and since I didn't have any records, I basically had the entire cooling system overhauled -- new radiator, fan clutch, thermostat, expansion cap, and new hoses. The only thing we didn't replace was the water pump, because the mechanic inspected it and said it was fine. The previous owner had the throttle body heater plate bypassed.

That was about two weeks ago, and the car has been driven daily since with no issues, both on the highway and in traffic. Been checking the fluids regularly, it uses a bit of coolant but no coolant in the oil whatsoever. Engine runs very smooth.

Just now on a quick trip to the grocery store I got an overheat. No idea what this could be, as pretty much everything is brand new. Any ideas?

sounds like air in the cooling system - I have heard these trucks should be parked front end up on a slope for effective bleeding of air out of the system.

What brand thermostat did you install and who bled the cooling system and how? Could have been an air pocket. Do you have an OBD2 device for reading actual coolant temps?

I bought the thermostat through FCP Euro, it was a Rein. My local mechanic bled the system and pressure-tested, but I honestly don't know how he did it... he's not a Land Rover specialist. Our specialist is all the way in Brooklyn but I didn't bring this job to him because the overheating meant the truck would have to be transported to his shop, which would have cost several hundred dollars. The local guy is just down the block and I trust him for most standard repairs. Maybe it wasn't flushed properly?

My first thought was an air pocket also. After I let the truck cool down and added coolant I took it for a long drive and had no problems. I do have an ODB2 computer but I didn't have it with me and wasn't able to read the temps as it overheated. Afterwards I put the computer on when I went for a drive and it read 100-103.5C for the entire drive. I realize that's on the high side but it was steady and didn't climb at all.

I just ordered a Scangauge on Amazon and it'll be here Monday, so I can keep track of the temperatures in real time.
