Default intermittent window problem

My driver's side window has been giving me problems over the last few weeks. It's been going up and down slower and slower. Finally, it stopped working last week. I could feel a thump at the motor. But, no movement.

I was ready to pick up a regulator, when the window started working again. I've not heard any crunching or grinding. There is no sign of a busted roller.

So, is it a switch, motor, or regulator?

Any opinions?

If it wasnt for the thump in the door I would say check the switches first. But because of the thump I say it is the regulator.
Now here is what I dont understand...why in the hell would anybody want to roll their window down in the first place?
