Default Issue with 3rd row seats in Disco II

Both of my 3rd row seats have issues, both when they are locked into place - one is locked in the down position so I can't get the back of the seat up, and the other seat back just flops up and down - will not lock into place. What is the typical point of failure on these? My friend / mechanic suspects needing new cables. Thoughts? Thanks in advance -

Bump...

Can anyone help on this one? 2001 Disco SE7 jump seat issues....driving me nuts! Just to confirm, they lock into the floor just fine....the issue is with both of the seat backs. One is locked in the down position, and the other WON'T lock up OR down...it just flops up and down. Thanks -

Default Both Problems are related

Hi, I had the same problem. What you need to do is put some small adjustable jack stands under each jump seat so you can lie down between them looking up at the bottoms. The problems are both caused by sticky parts and cables that need to be lubricated and exercised a few times. You just need to look under there while a buddy moves the levers so you can see what's going on and what's not moving that should be. Also you need to push on the "tab lever"
that is pushed up when the seat is locked down on the floor; that is the one that unlocks the seat back. Sounds like you have one stuck open and one stuck locked. I know this isn't very clear so if you still can't figure it out I will upload some pictures if you need me to. Good luck and good bye for now.

I would actually LOVE some pictures if possible - my mechanic was going to have me order a couple hundred bucks worth of parts (new cables, etc) so I'd love to fix it myself if possible in advance of having to do that. My email is ssblast20@aol.com if you have time to send some. Thanks!

Thumbs up pictures coming

Hi, I know what I need to show in the pictures, however I'll need some help from my son taking and posting them. I'll make it worth your wait, don't waste any money that you don't need to waste. I know I don't have any I just want to throw away.

Hey blast20,
I have been really busy with some other stuff and now my SES light is on, so that is the priority right now. Maybe I can talk you through this. Reread what I wrote before and if there is something you don't get, ask and I'll see if I can explain it better. I still think someday I'll get those pictures taken.
