Hello Everyone,

This here is my very first post. I bought my very first Land Rover and I'm picking it up tomorrow (Saturday) and couldn't be more excited!! This this is loaded! It has the rear entertainment package, cold weather package, the works....

I have read through a lot of the forums and I have been asking the previous owner tons of questions. This vehicle was a 1 owner vehicle, it has 102,000 miles on it. The services have been all done at the Land Rover dealership.. However, the previous owner said he just (this past Tuesday) took it in for the final tune up. They replaced all the wires, plugs and the coil. Also, he mentioned something about the range selector switch?? I don't know what this is? My current car is a 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo S so... Yeah...

Any thoughts, comments or whatever would be very welcome and very helpful!!

make sure it's not an '03 in the oil pump failure range..if it is then I wouldn't buy it.

Shane did you verify the vin with Rover to make sure?
Plan on rebuilding the front drive shaft to correct that weak point.
How much did you pay for it?

Yes, I sure did. I found the numbers in another thread yesterday and nearly freaked out. I checked it about 12 time from front to back very carefully, lol! Everything checked out and its safe, thank goodness.

All in all I ended up paying $6800 for the vehicle. I feel like i got a really good deal. I got extra money in the loan to rebuild the front end and replace the head gasket if needed.

Is it an absolute MUST to rebuild the front end? Should I do this right away? Is it going to be safe for me to drive this thing the 400 miles home without replacing the front end?

now i'm a little worried!!

You'll probably and I do mean probably, be fine driving it home for 400 miles, it's made it 102k right?? Check out the front DS for any extra play at the U-Joints and do a visual inspection for wear. That being said, most would recommend the rebuild/replace RIGHT away, you don't want to wait too long and have the DS take out your tranny. I'm at 111K and saving up for a replacement/rebuild myself, I say my prayers, and cross my fingers and toes every time I hit the interstate.

driving with the original drive shaft U-joints is like playing russian roulette...some people get lucky..some don't.

 

You could say that about the Landrovers in Whole.
