Default Jack is jacked!

Hello all,

The fancy red Italian bottle jack on my 03 DII is (half) jacked. The smaller, inside ram doesn't raise anymore. Just stops when it gets to the end of the large ram travel. Tried topping off the hydraulic fluid but no luck.

Is there any fixing these things or is it not worth it? If not, what's a good replacement?

Thanks,

-- Jason

I got a replacement at Harbor Freight. Slightly larger one for cheap. Had the same apparently common issue.

I recently found out that my factory jack was totally non-functional during a lucky “just out of curiosity” check. Honestly, a new bottle jack is so inexpensive off amazon I can hardly think of a reason to keep the original. I keep my jack in the back so a slightly different size isn’t important to me, but its something you will want to check if you keep yours in the original spot under the hood.

Yeah either find a good one at a junk yard for 5.00 or just get a replacement at HF for 15-20.00. Only thing I like on the OEM jack is the top vs the flat ones on the HF units.

The main problem with the original jack is that many people put them back in place with the filler bung at the bottom, and of course, being a LR accessory, they'd leak. They generally come back with a top up, but if not then anything that fits is fine.

Mine gave it up about 7 years ago. Got a Sears bottle jack which I now store vertically in one of the storage cubbies in the back.

I still use my LR bottle jack even last year when I had to further push the rear diff downward to install +2" springs. Worked like a charm!
I think the key is keeping the jack stored upright as I have my jack stored in my rear side bins with 2 each 4x4 12" length wooden planks.

Not worth trying to repair. IT is the seal. Get the 6 ton at Harbor Freight for under $30.

Wait a minute....which storage cubbies? Am I a donkey and have been missing these for the oh, 8 years I've had this vehicle? I'd run out and look but I'm chained to Zoom. I need a DiscoCam in the vehicle!

If you have the 3rd row jumpseats, you don't have the cubbies
