a junk yard steering box?
I have a pile of play in the steering on my 2003 Disco, as well as a leak somewhere. I have been thinkinking about getting one from a junk yard...they warranty it for 1 year. Sound like a good idea? Do they usually go bad?
The previous owner had the PS go so he drove it around with no PS...i'm sure turning that wheel with the car not moving caused a lot of strain on the steering box.
Thanks!

I believe there is an adjuster on the box, take a look at the RAVE manual or maybe someone who has adjusted theirs could advise you better than I could. As far as driving without the PAS pump working??? I don't know what kind of damage if any that could do... hopefully none but, I really don't know. I'm sure someone with more experience with this particular problem will chime in at some point and send you in the right direction.
Hmmmmmm... Maybe a junk yard box would be the way to go then, possibly the gears are just too worn out and slop can't be adjusted out???
http://roverlandparts.com has them for $275 but, if you've got a local junk yard that has some Disco's that may be a lot cheaper.
