He only said the valve cover bolts. 3x. Said they are 1/4x20x1 and he wants some 1.25s. I got some from Napa after he left, but I don't they will work

He did mention the rear most head bolt on driver side head was a bit**. Of course that's where my coolant leak was to begin with. He said he broke 2 sockets trying to get it "rave" settings. Ill be nervous after I get it back, not gonna lie. Just want to try and enjoy this thing some! After this job and other fluid and misc repairs and maintenance plus cost of the rig, I'm out roughly $6k!! I prob could have shopped longer and found a nicer one!!

Not sure if your tech was aware but, Each valve cover is fastened with TWO different length bolts. The outter most bolts are a different length than the inners.

Make sure he seals up the water jackets at each corner around the valley pan gasket and the front & rear sections on the block where the VPG retaining clamps go with Black RTV really well.

Well i assume he knows this but I'm not sure. He only comes to me when there is an issue. He said he was simply putting the valve covers back on and 3 bolts stripped and he needs something a quarter inch longer, doesn't make sense to me?

I would also like opinions on labor times from you all, if possible...
-head gasket job
-upper/lower ball joints
-trans drain and fill
-difs and transfer fluid exchanges
-plugs, wires, a couple coolant hoses
He's flagged 22 hours total for all this so far
Thank you all so much!

Yea sorry, the heads are on and good and spec torqued. He was putting the valve covers on and said 3 bolts were stripped on those. On the repair bill, its 20 hrs flagged, 10 for the head gasket job, 6 for the ball joints(??) and 4 for trans, difs, tran case, oil pan gasket and some misc hoses. I work in parts and at 10% over cost, I have roughly $800 in parts. Machine shop charged $350 for custom sleeve press job, cleaning, resurfacing. About $150 in fluids, another $140 in OE LR parts and $150 in plugs, wires, and ball joints.

On a positive note, I did get a $600 steel rear bumper off a trade in that went to auction for free! My plastic one was cracked as well.

that counts for something

i would think you would better either helicoil the hole or find a couple studs that will fit, only because you will be continually tightening the valve cover bolts over time. it you get a longer bolt it will bottom out and not leave you room to tighten in the future. jmho

I ended up getting some from land rover locally today. ERR7371. The ones in there now are ERR7370, some websites show both for this vehicle so Im not sure what the deal is?
