Default Just bought a Disco...

So I just bought my first Discovery tonight and on the way home I made some new friends...many of you have met them too, the three amigos!

Let me start by saying it s a 2003 Discovery with 74k, it is extremely clean, and from my research, it is not in the bad oil pump VIN range (but that doesn't really mean anything does it?) I test drove it last sunday and looked it up and down, in and out. No amigos, or lights of any kind. The guy said he had never had any of them either, I asked him that before I bought it and after as well. (Of course the seller is going to say that) I have searched and searched about these amigos, and still have a few questions about them. So please forgive me if this has been discussed a million times already.

First question: When these lights are on, does it mean that something is broken and is bad/or unsafe to drive?

Question 2: With these lights present, will it still pass a state inspection when they hook it up to the computer?

Because I can deal with a few dash lights on if thats all it is.

I'm sure I will have many more questions soon, and am working on putting together a good signature with my info in it. Thanks in advance for the advice, unless your going to tell me I'm screwed!! either way any tips are welcome!

Thanks, pwaltrip

You can complete 'option b' in about 2 hrs and have a good chance of solving the 3 amigos.

Passing state inspection, all depends on what state you live live in?

Last night after I posted this I went on a short drive across town and no amigos? This morning I have drove about 35 miles and nothing? Do they ever just fix themselves or go away on their own?

I may look into "option b" if they persist

I live in Texas, DFW area

They can be very intermittent. Mine seemed to come on mostly in cold weather or rainy weather. Now they never come on!

rent the scanner or get someone local to see what code it's throwing could be a bad sensor or the dreaded shuttle valve failure which would mean doing the sticky fix...

3 amigos will not prevent you from passing state inspection in Texas - thank goodness.
