Default Just bought a Discovery II with some ODBII issues... am I screwed?

New to Land Rover, just bought a 2004 Discovery II with 120K+ miles. No codes, but OBDII is showing "Not all supported I/M monitor tests are complete" and Catalyst Mon and Evap System Mon are showing as "inc" since DTCs last cleared.

After doing some research I've heard if its not a gas cap issue it's probably a catalytic converter issue which will cost serious $$$ to fix.

Am I screwed here? Concerned that eventually if I can't fix this, it will not pass inspection.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Flowmaster universal cats run about $65-90 ea., most muffler shops can weld them in to your existing pipes.

As mentioned, each can be replaced separately, one of them requires the removal of the driveshaft. Not so bad.

Which OBD diagnostic tool did you use?

It was one that the pre-purchase inspection mechanic was using, it was orange and blue but can't recall what model it was.

Thanks, this is helpful. I'll do some research on this.

I've seen videos by Scott Kilmer stating that before going ahead and removing the converter (which can be a PITA), you can first try to pour some type of thinner to run through the system that will clean up a lot of the crap that tends to build up the in catalytic converter.

Anyone tried this?

Also if anyone has any tips on fixing the evap monitor issue that'd be great! Seems like it's been somewhat a recurring issue on this vehicle from what the PO told me.

Ho wlong has it been since the codes were cleared? It takes a few drive cycles for some of the tests to be completed.

When I bought my 2002 D2 the smog station listed the exact same result. The problem was as others eluded to - there haven’t been enough drive cycles since the last time the CE light or codes were cleared. You need to put some miles on it and then your problem should resolve. I think 100 miles of varying speeds is the normal recommendation.

I am not sure as I just recently got it from the PO. I can ask but he may not know/want to share...

Will drive it some more and see if anything crops up.
