And for the price of this rack you could drive to get it and back home again and still come out ahead of the game.
$150 for a DII SD rack off of a wrecked 1999.

LOL

Well I bought it today, paid for it over the phone and I pick it up in 2 weeks.
The guy I spoke to was a idiot, but the 2 different guys that I spoke to last week were very helpful.
I am felling uneasy about buying it sight unseen but I did not want it to be gone before I could get up there.

Hmm yeah I was just about to say I'd be weary about buying sight unseen..might be a scam. Did you find it on ebay or craigslist or what? Is it a business or individual selling?

I found it by accident.
I was searching Craig's List and I found a guy parting out his DI in Traverse City.
So I replied to his posting asking if he had a roof rack and or a rear ladder, he said no but that the salvage yard just outside of town had a 1999 with "the safari style roof rack, you know the kind, the kind they use in the jungle"
So he gave me the phone number and I called.
"Yup, $150, its the kind they use on safari's"
Wheels started turning in my head, smoke and grinding noises from the gears not being used very often and I called back a couple of days later.
Different guy, same answer.
That was Friday.
Called again today and bought it.
But like I said this guy was a idiot, "its a tube style factory rack, it covers the whole roof"
me-"Does it have all the mounting hardware"
him-"we have to cut it off the roof"
me-"dude, it bolts to the rain gutters"
him-"dont know man"
me-"it bolts to the rain gutters, it is no good to me without the mounting hardware"
him-"do you want it or not?"
me-"credit card number....I'll be there in 2 weeks"
him-"ok, we'll have it off the truck by then"

I would *strongly* recommend calling back randomly until you get a Smart Guy, and make sure they know that if you get there and they've cut the downtubes, that you're going to reverse the charge on your card.

Politely, of course, but still...

I would call back and tell them do NOT touch it and that I would remove it from the roof myself.

Yeah I am going to call back tomorrow as well as call my in-laws and have them stop by and check it out for me.
They live 10 miles away and he drives right past it on his way to work and he works seconds shift.
I am sure they have not taken it off yet and I will tell them to leave it on.

Well, I seem to be the designated "so, what happened?" guy on the forum this year. :-)

So, what happened?
