Regarding your rear seat question - I just randomly noticed this ad here in Central Ohio.

I have just done the modification to add the 3rd row seats to my newly acquired 2003 Disco SE. You will need:

* seats
* floor anchor mounting brackets
* seat belts (pair)
* seat belt upper trim bracket (pair)
* seat belt anchors (top and bottom)
* head rests (pair) and mounting bolts
* head rest upper trim
* remote sound countrols (pair, optional)

I bought these parts off an auto yard for $450.

The two things to start with are

1. rebuild front drive shaft
2. replace key parts and/or service cooling system

The front shaft can fail and wreck your tranny.

The cooling system tends to clog and smoke yer head gaskets. I'd start with a flush, new 180° thermo, and new fan clutch just to be sure.

Then work on your mods.

Front drive shaft will be done very quickly. However, I am thinking of waiting until I get the lift kit on, so that it can be built once lifted. Even though I will only do 2-3", won't it still be better to build and have them adjust for any angle changes?

Today, I have to decide on which lift....2, or 3? hmm

I will work on cooling system this week.
Can anyone post a link on where and exactly which thermostat to purchase? I'll check again, but don't remember seeing a DIY thread on it. Also link to fan clutch?

Thanks!

IF/When I get the chance, this is the lift I hope to install on mine.

I didn't see anyone mention the oil pump. Check the VIN range to make sure you're out of the danger zone.

ATTENTION: Service Manager Service Advisor Technician
2003 Discovery Series II Oil Pump Failures
Vehicles Affected
Discovery Series II (LT) 3A771801 – 3A808362
Situation
Oil pump failures on 2003 Discovery Series II vehicles may be the result of a
manufacturing error. Locating dowel pins may be slightly misaligned permitting
assembly of the oil pump to the engine block, but placing stress on the pump housing
which can ultimately lead to leakage or failure.
Resolution
Whenever an oil pump failure is encountered on vehicles within the above VIN range
the only effective repair currently available is replacement of the complete engine
assembly including the front cover/oil pump manufactured to the latest tolerances.
Use the following components to affect a repair:
• LBB112301 4.6 Engine assembly LEV
• LBB111461 4.6 Engine assembly NON-LEV

Land Rover Discovery Review (Reviews) and Report, Land Rover Discovery Recall I have a put a 300TDi into mine, as the 3.9ltr was getting worn out after 170K KM. I have a '91 Jetta 1.6ltr Diesel with 500K KM on it - was hoping for the same on the Disco..UNTIL I read this. Now...next problem and it's gonna have a new home. Mine's '95 and thats overdo for this thing.

UNLESS, somebody on here has a 300TDi with lots of mileage? Thankyou for your input.

I think he's talking about an LR4 (link on the left titled "My LR4"). Unless the link brought me to the wrong page, I don't see how the article relates much to a DII TDI that's long since ran out of warranty. There are LOTS of TDIs out there with high mileage...just not in the US. In fact, 79% of Rovers are still on the road! Considering the first one rolled off the line in 1948, that figure is staggering!
