Unhappy Just Got a Rover, Need Some Help!

Hello!

I just recently got a 2003 Disco 2 and I'm in the process of doing a lot of work on it so I have a couple of questions.

What (if any) liquid product would you recommend for spraying onto surface rust to weak it before sanding it down? Also what would you recommend for undercoating?

I installed the inline thermostat recently and I keep trying to burp it using the method described in the instructions (rev at 2500 for 45 seconds) and it never seems to work. Additionally I tried to burp it traditionally and that also hasn't worked even after massaging the upper radiator hose for 30+ minutes I took it for a drive the temperature was fluctuating between 170 and 188 every couple of seconds according to my ultraguage. What would y'all recommend I try?

Also I just got a P1412 code thrown up and I've heard very loud growling sounds from the upper left of my bay and after doing some research it's definitely something with the EVAP. What steps would y'all recommend going forward?

Thanks and I appreciate any information you veterans have!

Rust oleum makes a good rust converter that cures to a primed surface. Duplicolor makes one to that is pretty good. For under coating I generally use duplicolor or permatex

Good to hear. I've been looking at POR-15 because of the review I saw on Project Farm with them but I will consider Rustoleum and your recommendations for the undercoating. Thanks for the advice!

Por 15 works but it days to get on. I just wire wheeled, then 2 coats of rust convertor then 4 or 5 coats of paint.

It could be the sensor coolant generally can not jump that much a second or 2

Spent about 8 years in the upper midwest where POR-15 was popular, trucks would rust out under the por. I prefer rust converter with rustoleum paint and then fluid film followed by a used motor oil top coat. Any other undercoating is dry and the water and salt will get under it and cause rust. Fluid film and used motor oil is sort of a self leveling film that repels the salt and water. Under the engine almost never rust on D2 due to the oil leaks. Sensor coudl be bad, are you doing the bleed procedure at around 140 before the thermostat opens?
