Ya hopefully they'll hold up! I'll let you know if I start any fires!

I wasn't really sure at all when it came to what wiring to use or anything. I'm displaying my ignorance on this one but I don't have a fuse or anything on this either. Just hooked that wiring straight to the battery.... Does there need to be a fuse on there? I can't imagine there is a fuse big enough right?

Were you able to install the winch without removing or loosening/adjusting your bumper around to get it mounted? How is your lift looking front to back in regard to height now with the extra weight up front?

I'm curious about this too. What springs do you have and how much lift? Also, has it drooped any with the extra weight?

I have terrafirma medium springs and an ARB bumper and I want to go get a badlands winch this minute but I am concerned about the 86 pounds out front because I have precious little tire clearance now (when turning).

I was able to install the winch without loosening the bumper or anything. Once you get the plastic grill off it goes right in. Except I also had to remove the metal strip behind the plastic grill. I have the 2" OME HD lift springs. No noticeable drop with the weight but I'll grab a measurement today and report back for certain. Ride quality is actually better with the added weight. Helps eliminate some of the stiffness in in the HD springs.

Fire isn't really the concern. Too much volt drop and the winch has less power and a shorter motor life.

There are fuses large enough, but provided you're careful routing the wiring so there's no chance of insulation abrasion you should be fine.
If you want to add anything, a shutoff switch would be useful, I like the Cole Hersee 2000amp one. Master Disconnect Switch, 75908, Cole Hersee
It's 2000 intermittent, lower for continuous, around 500A I think.
Blue Sea also makes a 500A one I think.

Phew. Glad that fire isn't an issue. I can deal with the potential loss of power. We'll see how they do. Thanks for the links. A berry disconnect would be nice.

Also, I just measured and I dropped a 1/2 inch in the front. Rear is the same. I am at 21 inches in the front and 21 inches in the rear. (From the center of the wheel to the flares).

Thank for that. Half inch droop on HD springs is, I guess, about inch on my MD Springs. I just tried a bag of concrete in my front bumper and at 80 pounds I got an immediate 3/4 inch drop without driving anywhere. My springs aren't very old. Back the to drawing board for me.

I'm running into the same problem as you.. just bought my new smittybilt X2O 10,000lb winch but I can't get the damn thing mounted in my terrafirma bumper because of that piece of metal running in the way.. I was about to cut it out but i thought I'd take to the forums to make sure that's the way to do it..

I'd forgotten about this thread but it popped up on new posts. Since I posted in March I've gotten a HF winch 12,500 pound) with all of the stuff that comes with it and have it in my ARB bumper.

I've seen about 3/4 inch of front droop from the winch on TF MD springs (+3).

If the OP is still around I can take pictures of the HF setup. I don't know what it all does.

I got the remote control. Works fine. The whole thing has worked fine in the couple of times I have used.
