K&N air filter, myth?
http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massair.htm
Heres k&ns response to it. They said they did a test 1000 cubic feet per minute, our trucks can't pull half that. For 12 hours and it lost no oil. It is beging to sound a little ridiculous that oil "floats off of these filters" but it's been spread around by many here amy other forums who state unknowns as facts.
I might try one

The K&N air filter is the dirtest air filter on the market, allowing way to much fine dust thru and into the engine.
As for D2's, the particular MAF used on them is way to sensitive to dust and oil mist and can fail, not only on the D2's but also on other vehicle like the VW's that use the same MAF.
Do yourself a favot and stay with a factory air filter for a better running engine.

Like a lot of noobs, I put one of those things on to try to get mpg up. Fixed other things at same time. Maybe got to 17. But now back below that. I am glad I saved all the original parts and it will go back stock. I like things that I can measure with my cheap equipment, or my Mark 1 eyeballs. Since my "Frankensien" (brought back to life with parts from the dead ones) is for college daughter, stop light grand prix and 1/4 miles times are not an issue. And speaking of that, maybe I should hook up that Gulf countries mod that beeps when you go over 70 mph.....
But to each his own. One guy on here modded his fuel injectors and all sorts of other stuff so he could run 115 around the hills in northern California. Might could use the extra airflow. In addition to the high center of gravity issues, the radar cross section of a Rover allows greater detection range for vigilant police. Not for me, can't carry enough Depends in the back for that sort of thing.

K&N filters do not kill MAF's people do. If you do not maintain the filter to its spec. you run the issue of having too much oil.. ruin the MAF, if you DO NOT use enough oil you can ruin the MAF. (by allowing too much dust particles). SO go ahead and run the K&N especially since K&N has said its okay but remember the opening line. "K&N filters do not kill MAF's people do."
