Default K&N filter for 02' disco??

Well im thinking about buying a K&N filter for my 02' discovery but i hear that they sometimes take out the mass airflow sensor? is this true? Im looking for a little more power and some more mpg. Has anyone bought one or is currently using one? All feedback is appreciated.

thanks

Some forum members claim that the use of a K&N air filter will ruin the MAF sensor, but I've been running one in my 01' Discovery for over 3 1/2 years without any problems whatsoever.I guess it's just one of those things that your gonna have to try out for yourself and see if it works for you.

Alright i guess i'll have to get one. I have ran a K&N before on a chevrolet pickup and never had any problems, but i've heard people say they've had problems with them.

be careful when cleaning. Do not get too much recharge oil on it. Bosch MAF's are very sensitive, and if any oil gets on it, it's toast. Some will claim that it is impossible for oil to get through the filter. I think it might be all in how you keep your filter and clean it.

That said, I do not run one because several people on here have lost MAF's due to the filter. I have not lost a MAF, but I took my filter off when I got the truck. Not worth the risk to me, and I didn't notice any difference when I took it off and replaced with aWIX paper filter.

I think DiscoMike will slap you through the computer if you run one...[sm=chairshot.gif]

The Bosch MAF is too dam sensitive for oil residue that the K&N will give off. If you talk to a Rover parts manager you will see their biggest customers for new MAF's are people with K&N filter,no matter how hard you try and dry up the excess oil it will bite you in the butt. By the way, the only proven benefit from a K&N is at highway speeds and it is minimal.

Has anybody tried the dri flow synthetic filter that aem is producing. Just wash and replace, No oil. Also it is suppose to outflow the k&n. If the oil is the problem then you could run a high flow filter without the hassle.
