Default Key - computer - anti theft problems ?

Getting ready to take my 2003 Disco rig into the shop to see if they can help me. Bottom line.... it won't start. I've bought a brand new battery. I changed the cable connectors to the battery. I bought a diagnostic tool to check the comp stuff. Codes came up that said Anti theft activated. I deleted the codes of anti theft..... but they always come back. I replaced the batteries in my key. I'm getting discouraged.

Sometimes it will start, I'll drive somwhere, park, come back, put key in ignition.....nuthin. It's freakin driving me bonkers.

Any assistance before I actually take it to the LR shop would be appreciated. This could be the end.

Stop wasting your money without knowing what is wrong.
Do you have a check engine light on, if so what are the exact fault code numbers?

Hey Disco Mike....
Just now I went out to the driveway to see if it would start and the electronic key button (on my key) would not even open the locks. The dome light would come on.....then it would get real dull. After I stop pushing the unlock button, the dome light comes back to what looks like full strength. Wifes key nuthing either. Tried pushing and holding the button down. Nothing. Finally, somehow (by accident maybe?) after 20 tries.... the locks popped open.

Engine won't start. Various dashboard lights come on and even flicker.

No check engine light is on.

I plugged in the diagnostics tool I have and got these codes

P1668 - pending
P1590 - confirmed
P0441 - pending

Last week I also got a P1415 - pending..... but not today

Here's what I'm using to check codes. It's made by actron.

I gotta get to work but I'll check back in on my lunch break. Thx for any assistance or ideas anyone might have.

That sounds a lot like a bad ground, either at the battery, or the BCU ground is bad.

Check your grounds.

First thing you want to look at is get your battery charged then check the alternator voltage at idle with all lights and radio on, should be between 13.6 and 14.4 volts.
The 1668 is your anti-theft system with an open circuit, which is your main problem.dfsz

Today's adventures.

Course I already said it wouldn't start this morning, but when I came home for lunch.... it fired right up....ONCE. Turned it off and tried again. Nuthin.

The battery is new and fully charged. I'll be testing the alternators voltage output tomorrow.

So I get home from work, put on my grubs, crack a beer, and go out there. I disconnected the battery and tried to follow (with my hands) all the places that wires went. I just wanted to see if I came across a loose connection or some other kind of trouble. Most of the wires are wrapped with heat resistent materials and I did NOT open all these up. The battery ground wire is firmly attached, thx for that input Racer X. Not sure what or where the BCU ground is?

Anyways, since I didn't really find anything obvious, I reconnected the battery and tried the ignition...... and the dang thing fired right up. I took it for a 10 mile drive just because.

So about that anti theft code Mike..... is there a better way of dealing with it than just erasing it with my diagnostics tool? It doesn't seem to help for very long

You can not erase that problem, it is electrical and you'll need to find someone to help you.

Ok.... well, thx for the input. It's always good to have some stuff that is NOT the problem checked off the list

There is another ground at the back of the driver side head attached to the firewall. Maybe check that as well. Since you are on grounds.

Good luck
