Default Knock Knock!

Hey everyone, Long time looker, first time poster here. I have a 97 D1 with 134k miles. Its in very good shape, I am the second owner and have kept up on the maint, never had any major problems. Recently I have been experiencing a "knock" that feels like it could be coming from the left front wheel. The "knock" occurs when accelerating from a stop and when coming to a stop. Yesterday I started to notice it on the freeway. At slow speeds, you can barely hear it, but I can certainly feel it with my left foot on the floor board. Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like it is time to pull the swivels down and inspect them. How long has it been since theyt have been serviced and had the preload reset?
You may have a CV joint failing possibily along with an axle or not.
I wouldn't drive it till you can have someone inspect it.

While the mechanic is in there, is there any other preventative maint. that I should have performed?

Depends on how often you change your other fluids, like the diffs, t/case, tranny, power steering and brake fluids.
If you can, stay away from the dealers with a swivel problem, their prices will kill you. When changing the fluids in the swivels, make sure they replace all the seals and use the new Rover swivel grease instead of the old 80/90 gear oil, it is a better way to go.

Thanks Mike-Just flushed/replaced trans, coolant and brake systems...I'll definately have them do the diff's etc while they are in there. Any idea (estimated) on how much I can expect to pay for a CV replacement and or an axle?

Joe

No, I wish I could help you there. Let us know what the estimate is, quite often we can help you on finding the best prices on line.
