Default Knocking noise at the rear of the D2

I have developed a knocking noise on rough roads at the rear of the D2 but not on smooth road surfaces. It may be the Watts linkage bushes that have finally expired or possibly the sway bar bushes or linkages.

What do you guys think and has anyone experienced similar?

I'm chasing the same thing right now.

Don't know if the TD5 exhaust has a rear resenator(sp) but I did notice there was a lot of play in mine and it would swing back and forth a bit.

The back end of mine has a clunk that I can induce by swerving hard to either side even on pavement. I have a replacement Watts linkage but haven't put it in yet. Supposedly that's the likely culprit. It's not an expensive or difficult fix if you just replace the whole part rather than trying to replace the bushings.

I thought there was a rear ball joint that caused that... But I might be wrong.

Had similar noise, finally determined it was the toe hook from the winch rattling underneath from, where it was hooked on a chassis member. Duh!

Thanks to all you guys for your help and ideas. I will report back as soon as I figure out what is causing the 'knocking' which I reckon may be either the Watts linkage bushes or the sway bar links. It even occurred to me that it might be the rear door shut side catch!, anyways, I'll find the problem and sort it asap.

A great shame Dusty disappeared from the forum as he was a great resource, good fun and very, very knowledgeable.

I ran into this about a year ago, turned out one of the shock bolts had wiggled loose and the shock was bouncing around. It never came off but it did make a good knocking sound.

Many thanks guys for your ideas and responses. You ain't gonna believe this ............................. it was the rear second row 1/3 seat slack and banging, how do I know, I got my wife to ride behind me in the second row seats and the noise disappeared totally. It really seemed like a something banging on the chassis/frame to all accounts. Mystery over for a change. I'm still going to replace the Watts linkage bushes in any case 'cos they are shot.
