Sorry to revive a dead post but were you able to ever identify the knocking? I have a similar issue and have created a new thread. Rhythmic knocking from behind dash/firewall only heard when engine is warmed up and at idle. No strange noises heard from engine area. I am desperate to solve this. It's driving me nuts!!
