lag in starting

After a couple of days of noticing a slight time lag in starting on my 2001 D2, I decided to do something today about it. Without going into a big panic, sometimes its good to go back to basics. After cleaning the battery leads, which was the main source of the problem thank goodness, staring went back to normal. One of these days, I should clean the alternator leads when I have to replace valve cover gaskets, and starter motor lead when I am next time under.
The same problem arose in my old Volvo 850, with just a mini-volt out on the starter motor prevented the car from starting. All leads were cleaned and starting was fine. Further saved the cost of a new starter motor as well.
One thing that I do know is that the negative battery lead on the Disco, no matter how tight the retainer nut is, there is a bit of very minor play. I think I may have to replace the 2 battery leads in the future.
