Land Rover Discovery tire question

Land Rover Discovery tire question
I just bought a 2001 Land Rover Discovery which has very low miles 36,000. The only issue is the tires are junk. The current tire size is the the standard 255/65-16, I am for sure going to replace them but thought of going to a 265/70-16. Does anyone know if this will cause any issues for me since they will be slightly wider? Thanks, Fred

The width difference is minimal, only .39 inches by measurement, which would be fine. The bigger difference you have to deal with is the overall height, which goes from a 29" to a 31" tall tire with the dimensions you provided. I would guess that would work without a lift, but I'm not sure. I'm planning a move from the 29" to a 32 or 33" tire with a lift, so I'm inclined to believe a 31" without a lift should be fine. Someone else here should know for sure.

I would be more concerned about all the deferred maintenance resulting from lack of use.
Just put on the cheapest OE size tire that's currently available and get your new truck on a baseline and do DiscoMike's 60k mile check.
Keep a close eye on all gaskets and rubber components for dry rot/shrinking due to lack of use.

You are biting off more then that truck can handle without a lift, they will rub, a lot, when wheeling.
As already mentioned, that truck is do for a major service, make sure to always run 91 plus octane gas and get your front drive shaft rebuilt or replaced before it fails and takes out your tranny.
Also a 265 will really cut into your low end torque/power and can cost you around 1.5 MPG in town driving.
What are you going to use the truck for.

Thanks for the replies. I will stick with the original size. As for the deferred maintenance, I was fortunate enough to have access to the Land Rover Service Records from the past owner. All the service has been kept up to date the 60,000 mile service was done and that same service was done one other time since then. I also had the dealer axle and gear box oil. I did feel pretty good about the service records, it is nice when the previous owner keeps them. Thanks again for the replies. They are appreciated.
