Default Leaking Machined hole in water pump?

Goodmorning,

1998 Disco I.

Noticed a severe coolant leak yesterday. Identified the leak as coming from a (machined) 1/8 to 1/4 in hole on the battery side of WP? Other than this hole leaking coolant the pump is not leaking at the gasket or anywhere else and is pumping fine?

Question... what was in this hole, can it be closed back off? It seems that if I can replug this hole that will solve the problem without replacing the WP.... is this possible?

Thank you,
Matt milligan

The hole that you are talking about is a weep hole it is there to let you know that the inner seal has failed on the water pump and the water pump need to be replaced.
