Discovery 2003

So all I did this morning was move my car from the yard and in to the drive way. It became really hard to steer and when I got out of the car it was leaking a puddle of ps fluid towards the front of the motor. The hose at the bottom of the pump is loose and coated with ps fluid. How can i tighten it? There were no hose clamps, I put some on but it didn't stop the leak.

 

It's difficult to believe that it would have been running for very long (and not leaking) without a hose clamp, so its suspicious that you haven't found one. The factory clamps would be pretty difficult to both click out of "tight" and then all the way to falling off unless you have a disastrous rust problem.

That being said, there is no trick here. If your new hose clamp didn't work, either the hose is junk (did you check the end to see if it's rotten/cracked/split?) or the leak is elsewhere (which would pretty much have to be the pump or the pressure hose from your description).

 

I should also mention that I couldn't see any fluid coming out when it was running. I couldn't see anything(drips or puddles) until I parked it and shut it off.

**** is that really my only option? I ran a search on the forum and I saw some suggestions(yours i believe it was Spike) about removing the pump and using RTV to reseal. What's your best guess?

 

You said it was a leaking hose, so thats what I went with.
Yes if it is the pump leaking you can try taking it off and resealing it with RTV.
There has been a 50/50 success rate with that.

 

I ask because it's leaking right around where the hose connects the bottom of the pump.

 

I dont think its the pump leaking then, I think its a hose.
You can buy just that hose to save a few bucks.

 

Yea I'll give that a shot. Is there a place where I can get those spring clamps? Can Napa order those? I think what happened was that I had a head gasket leak on the drivers side and it pissed coolant all over that area and may have rusted the clamp until it broke off. Thus me not being able to find the clamp.

 

Just use a standard worm clamp.
