Default LED Headlights

So I'm burning through a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra (about $25 per bulb) at the rate of one every 6 months for the past few years on my 2004 Disco. And I"m getting tired of it.

Looking at LED conversion kits for our H7 bulbs and feeling a little confused and wondering if someone has already tried this. I couldn't find much using the search function...

Not sure whether our headlamp housings are reflector housings or not or if there is a specific type of LED bulb that would work better for our housings over another one.

Any input or links to relevant posts would be awesome!

Chris

Try to locate some Long Life H7’s they will last the longest. LED wise it will require some modifications & in the end you’ll still cause glare to oncoming vehicles.

Are those the ones made in Germany by Hella? Marked as H7LL for Long Life and going for about $12 on Amazon?

Wear gloves when handling the bulbs. The natural body oils from your fingers end up on the bulbs. The bulbs burn bright and the oils make the bulb hotter and burn out quicker.

I always use disposable gloves when handling the bulbs, just can't get them to last longer than 6 months or so.

I know others have this issue too. I notice that the socket that plugs into the back of the bulb isn't in the greatest of shape and I've seen some replacement ones on Amazon & other places. Has anyone replaced their socket and gotten longer life out of their bulbs? See below for a link.

So that was my initial thought right! But finding a thread that shows how someone has accomplished this is proving very difficult.

Know anyone that's managed to do this?

Theres something wrong with your truck if its burning bulbs that quickly. Chances are LEDs wont last much longer either

I have done projector retrofits on other cars. That link is a great walk through on how to. I've been wanting to do this to my 03 but haven't made the time yet. I did do plug in LED bulb replacement for both the low and highbeam side.

On the lowbeam side I needed to leave the rear cap off as the LED bulbs are much deeper and the ones I used have a cooling fan that sticks out. The light output is way better than regular bulbs. It is a bit scattered but I don't seem to dazzle on coming drivers. I'm running an ARB bumper and the loop seems to cut off some light. On the high beam side the light output is really good with LED.

I'm still planning on doing a projector kit but likely will only do the low beam side and a use a projector that is dual low and high along with a harness to also turn the stock highs on.

But.... Going through bulbs like you are is odd. Seems like an issue that needs sorting first.

Related. I've replaced most of the other bulbs to LED too. Indicaters needed a resistor to stop hyper flashing. I'm realy happy with high out out backup lights. Makes a huge difference in being able to see. Changed my fogs to a sealed LED projector meant for Infiniti's which a very sharp cut off.
