Not to hijack this thread, but I would not do an aftermarket LED in a housing not designed for LED. You are going to throw light all over the place. If you can find them, best way to get better lighting is to find some LHD euro spec lights for your D2 facelift. They look like the US version, but with clear markers. They use a different lamp and the cut off on the road looks like it was done with a projector.

I do theatrical lighting for a living. To get a hotter lamp for the same voltage you need to go with a lighter (thinner) filament. These on principle do not last as long as the standard filaments as they do not take the abuse of everyday vibration as well. They also burn hotter and will burn thru (out) much faster. The Hella Long Life lamps are the opposite, they use a thicker filament so they last longer, but they also run cooler so they put out slightly less wattage.

Or retrofit projectors into the 03/04 housing.

These do an excellent job in 94-02 D1/D2 glass headlight housings! 360 light output, and unlike 99% of the LED bulbs out there the fan is internal vs the normal external config. 100% PNP swap em out and no mods are required.

It's probably worth mentioning that LED light's don't throw very far at all compared to their more conventional competition.

HIDs are great about it as are halogens but LED lights simply don't go as far so you may find even with a lumens/par rating that's as good or better, you can't see something far away as good etc. However this can be offset by just having WAY more light to start with but I imagine that'll end up being illegal etc. depending on how the gov measures such things and from what range. I know nothing of those details.

I'm very impressed with the LED's I mentioned. They actually have 2 different height beams aka real Hi/Low vs the other ones out which switch however the beam doesn't change height for Hi/Low. 360 degree of light output, and the fan is internal vs external. I can see very very far down the road with them and the true Hi beam. Also they have an excellent cut off which prevents any kind of glare to oncoming cars (very important).

I wish they made a 5k version vs 6.5k (4.3k is OEM HID color temp for example). The lower the # the closer the color is to pure white light output 6.5k is as high as I would ever want to go with as it is a blue/white color. 8k and up start loosing all the white light output and is totally useless.
