Default LEts talk Ball Joints 2003 D2

Guys what type of mileage do the ball joints need replacing? Mine look like they may need to be replaced but the truck drives fine. I was told this is about a 12hr job is this correct? Are there better replacements than OEM?

thanks
David

12 Hours?! LOL!

4-6 if you're doing both sides.

Heat and breaker bars are your friend, and a heavy hammer to unseat the hub from the spindle, and the spindle from the ball joints.

How many miles on your truck, do the ball joints pop or snap when turning and is the rubber seal cracked or leaking?
If any of these problems occur you would be wise to replace them all. I have one lower ball that has a torn rubber seal, pops once in a while, been that way for a couple of years and is still safe.

Dusty, wot - no 'go faster' NACA ducts, and they're so cheap.........

Oh, that's what they're called. Thanks.
I have the imitation air vents. I hope they don't clash

Totally off topic..............again..................amazingl y, as you probably already know, there are very sophisticated calcs and uses of NACA ducts although modern science had proved them less effective than the lowly air scoops but NACA ducts have less interruption on aerodynamic effects..............not that affects anything on D2's or LR's in general as once described as the aerodynamic effect of 'forcing a house brick through air' or having the 'aerodynamic shape of a house brick' ..................bit like a red London bus...........

Check carefully and follow Mikes advice before blundering into changing upper and lower swivel ball joints. There's a lot of hard work involved particularly if you find you didn't need to change them. Check methodically through your steering and suspension using a pry bar and also using an assistant moving the steering wheel back and forth a couple of inches whilst feeling each joint. In all honesty, unless you really have to, don't even go there with the ball joints.

86k miles - no popping but the rubber seal is sacked out and is smushed. I hear they last a long time as well but was curious more than anything on what the interval for replacement is.

thanks
