License Plate Storage Box
I think it’s an awesome idea.
for the license plate light: could probably use a brighter led bulb to alleviate the situation, or mount a light housing of some kind on the latch plastic?

Well you could leave the handle where it's at, just have to modify the box and put it all back together.
The cover holds the lights...
Youd have to open the box every time you want to open the door.
