Default Lift Installed / SLS Question

I just installed a 2 inch Terrrafirma lift kit on my 04 Discovery 2 in place of the air suspension system. I have read that I need to have the computer reprogrammed to turn off the SLS system. Is this true?

I have been driving the vehicle since the swap and I have only seen the light come on once and have never heard any of the reported dinging noises over 20mph. Also I have not had any dead battery issues as have been reported.

Do I just need to take it to a dealer or land rover specialist shop?

I love the new lift and duratracs

Looks good!

Ya you have to reprogram the BCU to turn off the SLS. If you have a Hawkeye or Nanocom or similar (or access to one) you can do it yourself. You could also just unplug the compressor for now until you get it turned off. Then at least you know it won't run.

Nice choice on the duratracs. i love them

Would you be able to show/tell me what I unplug on the compressor?

the compressor box is mounted under the truck below your seat, i believe there is on big multi-connector in there that goes directly to the compressor

I'm pretty sure that if you just unplug the compressor you'll get a chime sounding above 20 mph. If you leave it as is the SLS can drain the battery overnight if it tries to level the truck and there's nothing attached to it. Happened to me. Takes all of two minutes to turn it off with an appropriate computer. Or if you want to put some effort into it you can spend about what you'd pay a shop to do it and get your self one of these.

I haven't unplugged anything yet been driving around for a week with no lights or dinging noises and no dead battery problems. Trying to find time to take it in to get the computer done.

Based on my experience the related battery drain will happen only slowly and only sporadically.

The battery is more likely to be drained to the point where it will not start the truck the longer the truck sits not driven. If it's a daily driver you may never have it leave you with a drained battery, but if you leave the truck for a week or so to go on vacation you might come back to a dead battery.

I lived with the phantom battery drain for years before finally figuring out what the problem was. I spent countless hours testing isolated circuits trying to track down the parasitic drain. That was because the SLS relays and pump aren't always working and they weren't working when I was doing my testing.

But then late one evening I was walking past my truck after it had been sitting for a couple of hours and I noticed strange clicking noises. I traced the noises to the SLS pump box. I removed its cover and tried unplugging the wires there to stop the electrical drain.

It was after I unplugged those connectors that the chime began sounding every time I hit 20 mph. I suppose you could try unplugging the connector from the SLABS box and that might not result in the chime and would be just as good as getting the SLABS setting changed from SLS to coils.

KGov -

Do you mind sharing what Terrafirma parts you installed and where purchased? I've got almost the exact same Disco 2 ('04, dark blue, with 265/60/18 Duratracs!) and am close to getting a lift purchased/installed.

Years ago I installed a OME 2" lift + 1" spacers (w/ articulation cones) on my '97 Disco in my driveway with my buddy. Total cost was <$500.

Called a local Land Rover shop to get them to install the Terrafirma lift on the Disco 2 and they told me I also needed new control arms, new bushings, etc. etc...said the truck's steering geometry would be way off and twitchy at highway speeds. Quoted me at least $1,500 out the door!?!?!?!

Realize I need to pay them for installation labor, but whoa! I call BS on him...

How's the new lift ride and drive? Who installed?

Thanks!
