Best lift kit for begginer
I am in the same boat. Looking for a lift kit for my disco2. Not planning to go heavy offroading. At the same time kind of willing to get more clearance and most likely 32.5-33s tires. There is 4" terrafirma kit with all links, hoses and drives haft for $1700. I can afford it but not sure if I need it at this point. There is another one 3" kit with no links, no hoses and no driveshaft. What would you suggest? Thank to all of you here, that you share your experience and ideas.

If not planning on any heavy offroading then a 2" OME with 265/75/16 (roughly 31.5" pending tire choice) tires is as big as I'd go.
33s will require more lift and some trimming to avoid major rubbing. Running 33s also severely affects braking and acceleration if you don't plan on regearing which will add a significant cost. Not to mention once you hit 3" or more driveshafts, brake lines, and sway bar links become a necessity.

I was watching a video I believe it's from Rimmer Brothers for a 3 in lift kit and they didn't talk about any other components being necessary at this 3-inch level. I believe once you go to four in.
you need all this extra suspension stuff... Can anyone confirm this? I am looking to do at least a 3-in kit just to get my 32 -1/2" 275 75 18s Kenda Klevers underneath. I was hoping I didn't have to do any of the other stuff right now. Just springs and shocks...

Stock front driveshaft will not last long. brake lines and abs lines should be extended and the sway bar links are not happy at 3". Good news is brake lines are cheap and simple, abs lines are easy to splice in extensions with actual waterproof connectors and buy LR3 front links to put in the front of the d2 and buy new front d2 links to put in the rear. Driveshaft is the biggest cost and well worth the piece of mind.
Sure it will move with those size tires but if you live near any steep grades or at elevation then you will notice the added size and weight of bigger tires in a major way. Try and find a defender 1.4 high gear ratio t-case and then swap the disco outputs onto it (to keep sensor ports and TC functionality). This should be an easier and definitely cheaper than regearing at the diffs, plus imo everyone overgears at the diff level...4.11s are way too much gear for smaller than 35s.

Many do 3" lifts without anything else but be aware of the strain on the flex-coupling at the rear diff. It won't last if you do any serious wheeling. But they're cheap and they're easy to replace. Keep a couple of spares. You already have tools in the truck ..right? If not, you'd better get some. It's why Rovers get atrocious mileage; all the tools we have to carry

why do you say 'way too much' for 4.11's....?
