@cvhyatt HD springs?

This was the case with me. I started with 2" medium duty Terra Firmas. I had to switch to OME 2" heavty duty when I added stuff over time (e.g., steel bumper, winch, sliders, rack and roof tent).

No I have the medium duty springs. Also have heavy duty front and back bumpers and heavy duty sliders and the medium duty kit worked out fine for me. But again, I don’t load it up with stuff (except occasional camping trip) and it’s usually just me in the truck so medium duty works fine for me. I also got 10 ply cooper AT tires which are very heavy duty. The combo works for me and I haven’t been disappointed.

Went with a 2" TF lift, medium duty. After loading it down for bear, my thoughts of getting HD for rear were confirmed. You can see it squatted pretty good in this picture. But, this was a week long trip with my wife, so the amount of gear was a bit more than normal.

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't 3" known as the place where a lot more starts to go wrong/need changes? Whereas 2" is relatively "safe" with everything else stock?

Not sure about things going wrong but my understanding is that you have to make other changes (e.g. driveshaft) in order to compensate.

If you aren’t gonna fully flex it out, 2inch shocks, stock sway bars on a 3inch lift will work fine. The shocks would be fully extended under full flex, but if you aren’t gonna be flexing it fully. You will be fine.

Now ABS sensor length, and brake lines = extend them!!! I do it on 2inch lifts when I know I’ll be fully flexing it.

Also guaranteed on 2+ lifts your front drive shaft is going to get eaten by the support bar under it when off road and flexing!! Remove it or you’ll just hear it bang once or twice if your lucky before you damage it on the support bar. I personally remove them and have never noticed a difference. Some people claim it is the only thing holding a D2 together though.......

I have 3 D2’s with 3inch lifts stock drive shafts and zero issues. Now if I flexed em hard each and every day the rear rotoflex would not last long. However the front shaft will extend out no problem.

@Best4x4 This is off topic but how do you like the LR3? Is it pretty comparable to the D2 in terms of reliability and maintenance?

I personally am not a fan of the LR3. It's my wife's d/d but it loves to have funky issues and a few have been kinda on the $$$ side. Like a perfectly good sun roof glass exploding, on/off cruise control faults upon start at totally random times even with new buttons, and clockspring. Latest glitch is a transmission fault at startup, but it is for the HD Package rear locker... It's motor is either dead/dying or the entire rear center diff is on it's way out.. Haven't torn into that yet but just another thing that goes on the list of bugs/glitches.

The 4.4L is great, but I personally prefer a D1/D2 any day over an LR3. It started out as oh this LR3 is nice to WTH is it doing now.... My wife still wants it gone after the rather BS sunroof explosion for no good reason... Just haven't figured out what she really wants that fits our budget. She is a Grand Cherokee fan and maybe I'd get her a 2014 Grand Cherokee and say adios to the LR3.
