Liner Failures Explained
Hey guys, since this is a prevalent issue on Discovery as well, I figured I should post it. I found this great article that explains that liners can't slip on the newer engines because they are held in place. Instead the block cracks most likely due to the head bolt's stress on the block. Here is the article: http://robisonservice.blogspot.com/2...-failures.html
Maybe just less drunken Brits in 99?!?!?
I would assume its all the bosch engines that are affected but I do not know for sure. I was also reading that incorrect drilling and tapping of the head bolt holes might be one of the reasons behind the failure.
liners dont slip on the new engines because its a completley different design. the 305 rover engine used smooth steel liners pressed in place on the line. thanks to the law of dissimilar thermal expansion that was a poor place to cut costs.
