Lookin for a Disco in Denver. Thoughts?
Hey I'm recently in the market for a Disco in the Denver area. We are looking at the 2000-2004 models and are looking to spend around 5-8k. I'm going to start driving a couple this week and will make the final decision if this is what we want. We have three kids and two dogs so were looking for the extra space.
As far as the reliability of these should I expect to spend a good amount of money on repairs? I know this topic has been beat to death and I'm sure I will only hear about the bad apples.
Is 121k alot of miles to have on the odometer? I'm looking at one thats an '03 and it looks clean but has 121 on it.
Here is a link to a couple I found so far.

Do some searches. You will find a plethora of information on this very subject. Yes you can expect to spend some time wrenching on these. If you are looking to do any kind of off-roading you are best off looking at a 2000 and upgrading to the CDL or an 04 so the CDL is stock. LR's can be reliable if you spend time taking care of it. Avoid the '03's at any cost (yes I know there is a bad vin range, but the failures outside of the bad vin range are still common on the '03). Consider mpg when you look to buy as you can expect anywhere from 10-18mpg depending on the condition of the truck and when it was last tuned up. Remember the DII has more electronics so in my humble DI owner opinion that is more to go wrong . Also if you find one under 100K you are probably going to get the pleasure of replacing the head gaskets. If you can find one with them already done, consider it a bonus. Also remember that as soon as you buy you can expect to rebuild the front drive shaft (if not already done) or you might lose your tranny to a driveshaft failure. LR ownership can be rewarding but also time (and money) consuming. Don't want to scare you off, but don't want to paint the picture too rosie either. And don't forget Spike's important advice, "don't buy the first one you drive." Good luck!

As the commercial says, "Show me the Carfax" If it was dealer maintained, it will show on there. (I ran a report on a Range Rover I saw last month and turns out it had an odometer discrepancy) If you want less fluff, get a 2000 SD model. Less to go wrong. As mentioned avoid 2003. I heard some of the 2004's are having oil pump issues but don't know if that's isolated or becoming more common.
Forgot to add that if they tell you the head gaskets were done, find out who did it. I'm rebuilding an engine right now that had the head gaskets replaced.

Well I did a search for the 2000's and found a couple.
Here's one I kinda like.

Also this won't be for me. The wife needs a new car and coming from a jeep, she likes the Discovery. I have also had jeeps so I can wrench my way out of a semi-wet paper bag comfortably.
I figure KBB claims around 2500-3000 for the truck. I'm gonna offer him 3k cash and see how that goes.
