Default Looking at an '03 Disco II

Hey everyone, I am new here. Just wanted to say thanks for the wealth of information that this board has provided me in the past couple of days of reading.

I'm looking into buying an '03 Disco II with just over 3,000 miles on it. Yep, you read that right, 3,000 miles. Long story short, as far as I know, it was involved in a front end collision at around 1,900 miles. Seller bought it from the original owner as an investment, and began the rebuilding process. The body work is pretty much done (not perfect), but overall it looks pretty good. Just need some TLC to finish the job right.

I'm taking it to a mechanic to have it looked over. Fortunately, I was able to find one that was familiar with the LR brand not named LR. Stealership wanted $240 plus tax to do an inspection. Having said that, any advice you guys can provide as to what to look for, what to expect, and what I can do (if I buy) to make sure this truck lasts?

My wife and I are buying it as a weekend warrior/fun vehicle, so I am hoping that if everything checks out, the minimal amount of miles we put out it will help it last a long time.

Thanks,

Billy

Crazy....

I would do it.

1.) You will not have a head gasket problem for at least 65k more miles...LOL

Good luck. Would I buy it.... no.
It's an '03 and it must have been pretty badly damaged if it has sat for all these years being repaired. Think of all the seals and whatnot that have gone bad by now.

8 years sitting is not that bad. It could be worse. Was it sitting in a garage or outside? Also what has the previous owner done to it, engine wise? Was that damaged as well? Where was it hit exactly?

How much do you think it would cost to have the 60k service done that Disco Mike outlined in the sticky above?

I confirmed with the guy this morning that the only fluids he has had changed is the oil. He also has pictures of it prior to the repairs, anything I should look for in those?

Thanks for your help, guys!

Billy

Yeah your gonna want to do a good flush and fill with new fluids for everything (coolant, transmission, power steering, brakes etc). Check the hoses and belts, plugs and wires. I would invest in a new good battery also perhaps.

He hasn't emailed me the pictures of the before. I am thinking he only has paper copies. But here are some pictures of the now.

Wow looks good. A lot better than I thought it would.

Does it have a salvage title I take it?

If so, you can more than likely get a great deal on it. He knows he cannot sell it for competing trucks with a salvage title...esp a disco II...lol

I asked him about the title, and he said it is a clean title, not salvaged. But, looking like I can get it for at most $6k.

I figure, with miles that low, and everything checks out ok, it should be a pretty good investment. Opinions?
