Well, was supposed to pick up the truck this morning and take it to get inspected and I get a call, saying some other guy has come in and bought it on the spot without wanting to get it looked over or anything. Very disappointed.

If I were to continue to look for a LR, what year/model would you guys suggest?

Consider it good news. None of us would of paid that much for it. I was hoping it would be a salvage title and you were gonna get it for 2-3k. Always remember with these trucks when shopping - if something is too good to be true, 9 times out of 10 it is usually not.


Hmmm....what's your budget then 5k?

I would shop for a good running 1999-2001 perhaps.

 

Budget of around 5K for something needing a little TLC, can go as high as 10k for something in better condition.

Guess I feel a little better after you reading your post, hehe!

Call it good in the middle, 7.5k, and shop for a 04 then. The 04 was the best year.

 

You can find a seriously nice one for that amount. Good luck!

 

With very few exceptions, vehicles are not investments and shouldn't ever be treated as such. Especially something you intend to drive.

I totally agree and would like to share a story about a car that was not intended to be an investment, but turned out to be. My father is a corvette nut and owned several. In 1985 he bought a 1968 C3 Corvette small block, 350 bhp, 4-speed, limited-slip dif, power brakes, steering and removable hardtop with the purpose of restoring and showing it at his local car show. He paid roughly 3k in 1985, completely restored it (for another ~7k) and the car won several awards. It was recently apprised at 32K!

Glad to see the thread went in a completely different direction. I understand what you are saying and apologize for the misuse of the word investment. Yes, I am looking for a vehicle to drive and use. No, I am not looking for a car to buy and then resell at a higher value.

Sorry, didn't mean to get off track...IMO, start looking for a low miles '99-mid '01 (mid '01 b/c of the lockable CDL; mine was manufactured 04/01 and has the CDL) WITH maintenance and repair records.

Spend 5-7K on the truck and 3-5K on DiscoMike's 60K service, re-build front drive shaft w/greaseable parts & goodies like bumpers, lift, tires, etc.
