Looking at 2003 Disco -- Newbie Questions!

RE: Looking at 2003 Disco -- Newbie Questions!
I went and took a quick look at a 2000 (it was dark and the place was closing for the night.) Not sure what trim line, but it had dual sunroofs, and H/K stereo. 89k miles, asking price of $9k, which seems a bit high. It needs tires, and from the somewhat agressive tread pattern (Dunlop Radial Rover R/T's) and I believe aftermarket fog lights mounted to the front bumper, it's likely been wheeled. I don't really mind much (in fact it might mean that it's better maintained) but maybe I can use that to my advantage.
So about the CDL -- how does it get engaged?
I once said that I would never own another Land Rover that didn't have a warranty. And look at me now, seriously contemplating this thing. Why do British vehicles do this to me? (I've owned disasters such as a 78 MGB, 81 Jaguar XJ6, and my former 95 RR Classic.)
